Ashton on Mersey Church, by H Pattinson

This former congregational church relocated to 10/12 Whitefield Road, Ashton-on-Mersey in 1973. Centrally located in Trafford, this small modern church is set in lovely grounds, on a pleasant tree lined road.

The mixed fellowship of approximately 50, meet for worship and various social activities, including a small active Sunday School, Evening Fellowship and the Pleasant Tuesday Afternoon meeting.

 Minister: Revd Paul Brewerton

The church shares a pastorate and occasional joint activities and worship with our sister church, Sale URC, which is approximately 1 mile away. Sunday worship is at 10:45 a.m. with Communion every second Sunday led by our minister. Visiting preachers alternate with our own minister.

Revd Paul Brewerton

Secretary: Mrs Pat Joyce.

Mrs Joan Parry being installed as a Nationally Accredited Lay Preacher.
(Joan is a member of Sale URC, but the service was conducted at Ashton.)

The church has 52 members, 25 associates and 10 children at worship. Set in a residential area West of Sale and the main Washway Road / Cross St., this is a warm and welcoming small fellowship, that meets in bright modern premises opened in 1978, that replaced an older building founded in 1875. A joint pastorate with Sale URC, the Ashton church has a solid body of keen members and adherents.
Regular church activities include a monthly Evening Fellowship, a Pleasant Tuesday Afternoon group each week, and a weekly music group.
They share in ecumenical activities with other local churches.

Please pray:
That the church will retain its warm enthusiasm and find ways of attracting newcomers to worship.
That younger families and children will find a spiritual home there.
For minister, elders, leaders and members, that they may be blessed with faith, vision and a continuing strength of purpose in all their work.
For the work of the Playgroup and the local families it serves. That the members will encourage this work and give support to the community where they can.
That the vision of a Pilot Group may receive some encouragement.
That concern in the church for the world’s poor, may contribute to change.

Lord, bless your people at Ashton-on-Mersey,
strengthen their sense of purpose and their motivation,
and deepen their sense of fellowship.
May their welcome be always warm and open,
their hopes realistic and their faith resilient,
so that those dreams of growth, that are truly within your purpose, may be realised.

Minister: Revd Paul Brewerton. Secretary: Patricia Joyce. Treasurer: Doreen Drake. Elders: Alfred Joyce, John Burgess, Diana Seath, Lynda Harper, Christine Witty, Linda Porter, Hylton Eckersley, Ken Robinson, Pamela Boyes, Kathleen Allcock, Marion Wilkinson.
